Scarborough Travel Basketball

The goal in the Scarborough Red Storm Travel Basketball Program is to provide a positive, enthusiastic and team oriented environment. With instruction from both Girls and Boys Varsity programs, we focus on skill development. It is a structured and well organized plan, that focuses on the players overall development both on and off the court. It will also be intense both mentally and physically. We strive to compete at a very high level throughout the program. Players will learn to respect the game, the officials, their coaches, teammates and opponents. When the players move on from our program they will better basketball players, they will have learned the value of hard work and they will have a higher level of self-confidence. Players will leave our program ready to compete at a high level for the High School program.

The philosophy of the Scarborough Travel Basketball Program is to provide players with an advanced and competitive basketball experience. It is our goal to develop skilled, competent players that are prepared to compete at the middle school and high school level.

The Scarborough Travel Basketball Program will take guidance from the respective varsity coaches. Players will be taught skills that will enable them to transition through the grades and ultimately be contributors at the high school level. Player’s development will be sequential and progressive in nature. Coaches and directors will adhere to the guidance provided by varsity coaches and will attend coach clinics and practices to afford them the skills necessary to guide our young athletes.

We will strive to promote a passion and respect for the game of basketball and as a result our players will respect the game, their coaches, teammates and opponents. We will focus on skill development and provide a positive, supportive and fun environment with the goal to help these young basketball players develop life skills both on and off the court. We try to encourage players to develop self-confidence by utilizing a positive coaching method that creates a high energy atmosphere to learn.

Our coaches are the single most important part to the success of the entire program. Our goal is to provide quality instruction, support, and supervision for all our coaches.

We will coach our players to be fundamentally sound in all aspects of the game. All youth basketball players should work on all the fundamental skills that make good basketball players: footwork, passing, catching, ball handling, shooting, individual and team defense and rebounding. Skills will be taught in a sequential and progressive manner using terminology and points of emphasis from the varsity program.

Our program will build on team concepts on offense and defense that will allow players to progress through the program with the skills and knowledge necessary to compete at the next level. We will instill a winning attitude with our young athletes but winning at the youth level will not be the determinant factor of our programs success.

The goal of our program is to deliver fundamentally sound basketball players with good basketball IQ to the High School program. The Scarborough Travel Program is the feeder program for the Varsity program. We are the future of Scarborough Basketball. Our coaches, directors and everyone involved in our program will support and promote the Varsity program in every way.

While the main focus of our program will be providing opportunities during the winter season, we will work hard at developing and providing out of season opportunities that will aid in our young players skill development and passion for the game.
